Founded in 1989 by Phillip S. Estes and James M. Shorin, Horizon Holdings, LLC ("Horizon") is a private investment firm, which identifies and, in partnership with proven managers, acquires independent private companies and divisions or subsidiaries of larger corporations that are manufacturers and distributors of food, beverages, recreational or consumer products and have revenue between $10 million and $50 million. Horizon’s principals work with the key executives at each of its companies to build long term equity value. All of the key executives at each of Horizon’s companies own equity in the company on the same terms as does Horizon and its investors, and each executive has the opportunity to earn options for the purchase of additional equity based on performance.

Phil Estes and Jim Shorin, have extensive experience in a wide range of disciplines including capital formation, business strategy, executive recruiting and compensation plan formation, finance and control, law, operations and sales and marketing. Messrs. Estes and Shorin work closely with the management of each acquired company to (i) develop a sound, growth-oriented business plan, (ii) put in place comprehensive financial controls and to ensure accurate, timely financial reporting, (iii) develop and promote a culture of prudent risk-taking by key Company decision-makers and (iv) maximize the value of each investment.

Our Mission

Horizon attempts to structure acquisitions to satisfy more than just the price requirements of the seller. Horizon accomplishes this by seeking companies that are either family owned, have succession issues or are sole proprietorships with special concerns such as (i) continuing heritage or brand image (in certain cases it is the seller’s name), (ii) concerns about employee protection (people who have worked for the seller for years and are considered family) and (iii) sensitivity to taxes.
